I started college this week and found that all my books I was to get from RFB&D are not going to be recorded until next semester. So I am stuck with scanning two of my books and I am having the learning center record via audio my math for me. I have a victor reader stream and when I went to play the audio file of my math on it, it would not work. It is recorded on the computer threw I believe WMA but saved as a MP3 file. What can I ask the learning center to save the files as so I can play them on my victor reader stream? any any tips on how I could possibley get the rest of my books fast because the scanning isn't working well, half of the text doesn't sound right. I am using Open book demo until Visual service can get me something else hopefully.
The Victor Reader Stream plays MP3, AMR-WB+, WAV, WMA, OGG, Audible Format 4, Flac, MP2, MPEG2, SPX.
You can try scanning using Kurzweil.
Thats what I don't get, they are recording in MP3 at leat that is what the file type says and it won't play it. IDK going to go after class today and ask them what format just incase
where do you copy your mp3 files to? try copy it under portcast or music.
Slight correction. The word you want is Podcast, not Portcast.
wma files don't work. I tried them, they have to be and I mean have to be mp3 files or don't inticipate on it. I tried it before. Get a Kanno scanner that works from your computer because those plug in ones to the wall is a shit...Hope this helps.
@post5 right, its 'podcast', to be exact its under $podcast foulder, or $music. try putting them in this place. i have no problem playing wma files on my streams, but usually use mp3 as a format.
as far as scanning software goes, i agree on k1000, i found that its more accurate compare to openbook.
thanks, I hope that works I will try it right fast but first, what is difference between Kanno scanner and k1000? I have to pritty much take what Visual service give me so unless someone has something I can have...
Also
Can a person who is recording my math save it as MP3 file without having to use different softwear to record/
I don't know and then it may be a mp3 file, just I don't know...
Kanno you can hook up to your computer and the other one I'm not sure. I'm sure others that post here can answer that...
thanks and I just tried to save it in my music folder and my podcast folder, it works in my music folder, thanks allot. So much easier to play it on my Victor reader stream than my pacmate, so I dont' have to flip back and forth on pacmate to try to pause it to write down the problems. I have to wright down the problems as well as the answers
You can leave them in music, but they may be better placed under $vROther books. Also, don't forget that you have the bookmarking features available so that you can mark where important information is. Glad you have it working now at least.
I will try it out in other books to see if it works better.
I think Other BOoks is where Bookshare books would go as well, not that I use Bookshare since I really don't care much for the Stream's choices of text-to-speech synthesizer. I don't know if the stream's audio ahrdware affects it the voice it always sounds like it's inside a tin can. And Samantha's even worse because I think she sounds like she's got mashed potatoes in her mouth LOL. That's why I changed the voice on my IPod Touch to ScanSoft Karen. Granted you have to change the Regional Settings in order to do this but it's worth it.
For math, you might consider saving it as a text file. It will be much easier to manipulate the text by character. Depending on the type of math you are doing, this might be critical for things like parentheses and such. If your Pacmate has a braille display, you might even consider using this with the .txt file. Again, you can see exactly how the problem is laid out. Granted the problem will be displayed in computer braille, and it takes some getting used to, but if it were me, I'd prefer the character-by-character representation of the prlbmes/equations.

other book is basicly another foulder for whatever you want to put in there. i usually have my mp3 there, (beside music). such as lectures and notes. i believe if you are bookshare subscriber, it will create another foulder call $bookshare by itself for all the booksahre books, just like what it does with $audible
not entirely sure what is Kanno scanner, can't find information on google either. however, k1000 also known as Kurzweil1000 is basicly another OCR software, like openbook.
if you want to use other means, such as text file, perhaps you might want to try to read using your computer instead. the vr streams text to speach not really clear, specially with samantha. thom/daniel, aint too bad, slightly better compare to samantha, (which is the default)
The math is record via audio so I couldn't read it like a text file but thanks. I got it to work in music and in other books. I have a full vershion of K100 that was given to me from a friend witch helps allot since I was using Open book demo to scan with. I would like to get the PEARLĀ®. I think it would be really nice to have, maybe if I get school money in time. But it has to have open book to work.
No, bookshare books just go under $vrText. Math in audio? That's rediculous! I wouldn't do math in anything other than braille, but that's just me.
Many years ago, I struggled with a statistics book on cassette. I wound up brailling the tables and formulas so I could make sense of them. I just think it way easier to see how numbers relate to oneanother in braille.

I can't aford to get a math book in braille and if you know how i can get it for free in a BRF format then please let me know. I do my math in class on slate and stilus. But sometimes I can get more when it comes to the pictures of angle in audio than in written format. how can I see picture on a braille display. I am not going to carry my books to class either, I have to walk to school that would be to much. but thanks if you can tell me about the BRF it could help a bit.
If you can do math auditorilly, you're a better person than I am. I just couldn't process numbers well in that format. If you are looking for concepts such as angles and such, the American Printing House for the Blind had all sorts of mathematical aids that were tactile in nature. I'm talking about the 70's when I was in school, but I am betting that the need for such things is still there, and the products are there to fill the need. You might try checking with vision teachers in your area school systems for some resources.
Good luck,
Lou
